welcome to Simbahöllin

welcome to Simbahöllin

Simbahöllin is a cozy, old-style coffeehouse at the edge of the world.

We are located in an old grocery store from 1915, which we restored and converted into a coffeehouse. Most of the original shop interior is still intact today.

We serve quality coffee and tea, as well as home-made cakes, soups and light meals. Our Belgian waffle with homemade rhubarb jam and cream has become legendary!

We are open daily from mid-May through mid-September.

Stop in to relax and enjoy some fresh food and the beautiful surroundings!

Horse riding in the westfjords

During the summer we offer guided tours through the breathtaking Sanda valley in the "Westfjords Alps," on our friendly Icelandic horses. Three tours depart daily from our stables just a few kilometers outside Þingeyri. Our standard rides are ideal for beginners and less-experienced riders, as well as families. Custom private tours for more advanced riders are also available upon request.

We have professional mountain bikes for rent on a full- or half-day basis for self-guided adventures. In the area around Þingeyri there are riding routes for all levels - from the challenging Svalvogar circut to a more leisurely ride to the bottom of the fjord. Mountain biking is a great way to get up close and personal with the landscape at your own pace.

arts and culture

When we opened Simbahöllin, we wanted it to become a cultural hub and to create an environment to bring more arts and events to Þingeyri. We host live music, performances, and art exhibitions, and in the summer we have work by local artists, as well as handicraft on display.

In 2015 we finally realized a longtime dream of establishing our own art residency. We now run the Westfjords Residency, bringing together a international group of artists for 10 days, to collaborate, work on their craft, and create a new cultural dialogue in the village.
